Congratulations to Dr. Brandon Barker on receiving the 2023 David and Cheryl Morley Early Career Award for Outstanding Teaching from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Barker joined our Folklore and Ethnomusicology Department in 2013 as a lecturer and became a tenure track professor in 2020. All along the way, his teaching has been both diverse and exemplary. He has taught large and small classes, at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and participated in such programs as ASURE and the Freshman Learning Experience. He has distinguished himself not only as a teacher in his own department, but a collaborator in a number of cross-department initiatives. His students constantly speak of his innovativeness as a teacher, but also the way that he communicates his sincere care for them as individuals. He is also currently serving as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for his department. In every aspect of his career, we celebrate him and count ourselves as fortunate to have him.
