2 Visiting Ethnomusicology Positions for 2020-2021

By: Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology

Thursday, March 5, 2020

The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology invites applications for two, one-year positions beginning in Fall of 2020. Applicants are welcome to apply for one or both positions. If you are applying for both, only one set of recommendation letters is needed. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement that of our current faculty. Candidates should be broadly conversant with the theoretical and conceptual aspects of ethnomusicology.

The two positions are as follows:

Visiting Lecturer in Ethnomusicology: The teaching load for this position will be 3 undergraduate courses per semester. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching world musics.

Visiting Assistant Professor in Ethnomusicology: This position will teach 4 courses, at least one of which will be a graduate seminar, during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology is an innovative, interdisciplinary center for the study of music and culture in global contexts, which offers BA, MA and PhD degrees. The department has a full-time teaching faculty of 17 folklorists and ethnomusicologists, and a graduate and undergraduate student population of nearly 100 students. Applicants must have completed the PhD in ethnomusicology or a related field by the date of appointment, and have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

A letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation should be sent electronically to Michelle Melhouse (mmelhous@indiana.edu), and addressed to Dr. Daniel Reed, Chair, Search Committee, Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, 800 E. 3rd St., Indiana University, Bloomington IN 47405. Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.

The Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.

Indiana University is an equal employment and affirmative action employer and a provider of ADA services. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ethnicity, color, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, disability status, or protected veteran status.
